A US Naval academy plebe is choked while participating with others during the Herndon Monument Climb which is the traditional culmination of first year at the academy. Working together, they climb a grease covered 21-foot-tall granite obelisk and remove a plebe cap and replace it with a midshipman's cap thus ending their first year at the academy. It was 98ºF that year and it took the plebes over 3 hours to complete their task.
